Hearts of Iron 4 is a complicated grand-strategy game made by Paradox Development Studio and released by Paradox Interactive. The game is mostly about war and politics during World War 2, and players can take charge of a country before or during the war. Aside from the very complicated and wide range of game mechanics, such as diplomacy, research, production, economy, and industry, players must focus their efforts on building and managing a force that can go to war.
At its most basic, war in Hearts of Iron 4 can be fought on land, in the air, or at sea. Players who start their trip in a coastal country need to put money into their navy to keep sea power. Players who are eager to play will quickly learn that just sending out a bunch of submarines will eventually lead to their navy forces being wiped out. Sub-Hunting And Coastal Patrol
Hearts of Iron 4 players can use CL (Light Cruisers) x1 and DD (Destroyers) x3 to keep control of the sea in key areas along their coasts. This fleet’s make-up is especially strong and flexible because it can stop submarines from operating in their zones and protect important places along their coasts.
Anti-submarine warfare (ASW) air and seacraft could be added to navy theatres if the player wants to. The surface ships are used to find enemy submarines and attack them, while the ASW aircraft can also find and fight submarines. Commanders should set their Sub-Hunting/Coastal Patrol fleet to “Patrol” and “Engagement” to “high-risk,” which means that ships should attack any enemy they find.
The main idea of the Convoy Raiding composition is to put 9–12 submarines in each group as part of a task force. Each fleet should be sent to a place where there is little or no air support. Each fleet is given a deep water zone to control (i.e. raid convoys). Players should try to build at least five fleets with submarine task forces and give each one charge of a zone next to it.
Battle leaders should set their Convoy Raiding fleet to Search and Destroy or, better yet, give the order to Raid Convoys.
Commanding Officers can ask CL x1 and DD x2 for help to strengthen their air defence in a certain area. It is important to make sure that these ships have AA (Anti-Air) parts. So, players are urged to make fleets that take the AA ratings of each ship into account.
Players can change the size of this task force based on how well the other country controls the air. Up to CL x20 and DD x40 is pretty strong and usually gets the job done. Players can also use CVs (aircraft carriers) as part of their anti-air task force to fight fire with fire.
But how can players protect their own ships instead of just fighting other ships? That’s where the idea of an escorted group comes in. Since submarines are used well by the most popular forces that attack convoys. Fans will want to use ships that can fight both submarines and planes.
For this reason, the best combination is DD x (5-20). Each ship needs to have anti-aircraft (AA) parts, sonar, and depth charge. So that it can fight off enemy submarines and planes. In Hearts of Iron 4, commanders can also get help from CL x (4-5) and CA (Heavy Cruiser) x (2-4) to make their escort tasks even stronger.

Strike Fleets are made up of most of a country’s ships working together as a single task group. Most of the time, fans will want to keep a few lone patrol ships close to watch for invaders and destroy enemy ships so that the strike fleet can destroy them. Players will find it useful to keep their strike fleet close to their scout ships because of this.
Strike Fleets are expensive to run and keep up because they are so big. These teams use a lot of fuel quickly and can only work in one sea zone at a time. So, players should only send out their main strike force when they are sure they will win. There is no set number of ships or submarines in a strike force. The more, the better. But players should keep these rules in mind: In a strike force, it’s best to have these ships:
- 3-4 CV
- 5-10 CL
- 5-10 (AA-based) CL
- 6-8 CA
- 40-50 DD
- 1-4 BB (Battleship)
